2013 Instructed Workshops

2013 Open Studio Sessions

Our open sessions are single day commitments, with an unstructured style. Artists can work at their own pace, or ask the monitor to help them learn a new technique.

ETCHING:

Open etching sessions are Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 pm till 10:30 pm. There is a limit of 6 participants per session. Ink, newsprint, and acid are supplied by the shop, and printing paper is available for purchase. It's $25 per session, and we schedule in four week blocks. We can take payment by check or Paypal. These fill up fast, so email with interest early.

An experienced printmaker monitors the session and is on hand to teach artists new to the medium the basics or more advanced techniques, handle paper, and run the press.

A Safer Direction: Aluminum plate etching with the Saline Sulphate Etch

Very low toxicity

Beginner to advanced level

This  workshop creates an opportunity for its participants to  produce intaglio images on aluminum plate.  All participants will learn the process of drawing, processsing, and printing using low cost aluminum plates and a new, virtually non-toxic, method of etching.  Techniques to be explored are line etching,  creating tonality through the unique "self-aquatinting" properties of aluminum, and creative resist techniques.

Participating artists will learn how to prepare an etching plate, etch using a new and innovative system that is very low toxicity, and print an editioned etching.
